On line retailing will grow by 27% in 2009

Despite today's tough economic climate, predictions from Verdict Research indicate that online retailing will grow by 27.8% in 2009 and this will account for 8.5% of total retail sales. Further research from New Media Age suggests that consumers are opting to shop online in greater numbers with 89% believing that they can find a better price online, and 68% stating that shopping online is cheaper than visiting the high street.
Despite these predictions not all retailers are placing enough importance on their web presence. An example from 2008 highlighted one such retailer who reportly lost nearly £700,000 a day in sales when its' website went down for three days. This resulted in hundreds of customers purchasing their shopping from competitor websites. (Retail week)
